Our story

Born on a wall of sticky notes

ChoBo came from a household of six that couldn't keep track of who was doing what.

A quality engineer and father of four tried chore chart after chore chart, and couldn't keep up with who was doing which task. Some family members complained that others weren't doing their share.

One day it dawned on him: try Kanban at home. He gave each person a color of sticky notes and set up three zones on the wall: to do, doing, and done. Counting up the notes showed who was doing what, with rough times written on each one. Things got done, and it was easier to see who was pulling their weight.

But managing the notes, the spreadsheets, and the cleanup was a chore of its own. He also wanted to know where things got stuck. So ChoBo was built to improve how a household talks about its work, give real feedback, and give everyone a reason to get things done.

What people actually want to know before trying a new chore app.

Is ChoBo actually free, or is that just a trial?

The free plan has no time limit and no card required — single device, 4 weeks of analytics history, a weekly review of what actually got done, your first 4-week household report, and full access to chores, rewards, and Andon flagging. Household and Lifetime plans add multi-device sync, every 4-week report from any month, and unlimited history.

What's the household report?

Every four weeks ChoBo can turn your chores into a one-page report for a family meeting. It shows what each person actually finished, the usual range of a normal day for your household and for each person, the unusual days worth asking about, and one experiment to try next. It's built on your own device from your own data, and nothing is uploaded. Free plans get a weekly review and the first 4-week report free. Household and Lifetime get every report, plus a report for a single day or any dates you pick, which always includes today so far. Short reports are judged against your own earlier days, and when there isn't enough history to say what's unusual, ChoBo shows counts only and doesn't make suggestions it can't back up.

Do I need to create an account?

No — there are no accounts anywhere in ChoBo. Your household's data lives in your browser's local storage, and multi-device sync (on paid plans) happens directly between your own devices over an encrypted peer-to-peer connection, never through a server database.

Is this just for families with kids, or does it work for roommates too?

Any household. Families, roommates, and couples all use the same board — assign chores to whoever's involved, split by person, or share across everyone.

What's the Andon flag feature?

It's borrowed from factory-floor signaling: anyone can raise a flag the instant something needs attention — an overflowing trash can, a mess that can't wait — instead of it quietly not getting done. Whoever picks it up gets it as a real task on the board, worth points once it's handled.

Can I attach a photo when I flag something?

Yes. When you flag a problem you can take a photo with your phone's camera or pick one from your library, so nobody has to guess what "kitchen mess" means. The photo goes straight to the household's other devices over the sync connection rather than to a server, and it's deleted once the flag is answered. Photos can be switched off per device in Settings.

Does ChoBo show the weather?

Yes, if you want it. Add your city and the board shows the local forecast hour by hour for the next two days, plus the next seven days, including the chance of rain. It's optional and needs no location permission, since you just type a city. The forecast comes from Open-Meteo, a free weather service, so the city you search for and its coordinates are sent to them to look up the weather.

Can everyone in the house see the same board on their own phone?

Yes, on the Household or Lifetime plan. Sync is peer-to-peer, so every device in the household sees the same chores, points, and rewards update live — no central account to log into.

What if I want a refund?

Contact us within 14 days of your purchase (or your most recent renewal charge) and we'll refund it — no questions asked.

What ages is ChoBo good for?

Any age that can tap a checkbox. Point values, rewards, and daily goals (in points, chores finished, or both) are fully customizable per person, so it scales from a kid's first chore chart to an adult roommate's actual household duties.
